MSIG TIEs-up Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2014 Sponsorship with Cheque Presentation Ceremony

Funds raised during the marathon channeled to NGOs

Kuala Lumpur, 23 December 2014 - MSIG Insurance (Malaysia) Bhd (MSIG Malaysia), one of the leading general insurers in Fire, Engineering and Personal Accident classes and No.1 in Marine Cargo insurance today channelled the funds raised during the Standard Chartered KL Marathon to four deserving non-governmental organisations (NGOs).  MSIG Malaysia was one of the gold sponsors of the marathon with naming rights to the 10km route during the Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2014.

“We are pleased to be able to add value to our partnership with Standard Chartered KL Marathon by contributing to these organisations.  MSIG has partnered with this iconic marathon since it started six years ago as a Gold sponsor and we are pleased to see that this marathon has grown and attracted participants not just locally but internationally as well,” said Mr Chua Seck Guan, MSIG Malaysia Chief Executive Officer at the cheque presentation ceremony held at MSIG’s new office in Menara Hap Seng 2, Kuala Lumpur.

For every runner who registered on the 10 km route, MSIG pledged RM2 ringgit to be channelled to NGOs that partnered with Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2014.  A total of RM31,600 was raised from over 15,000 runners who registered by the MSIG10KM closing date.  As it was the runners who contributed to the funds through their participation, MSIG decided that they should be empowered with the choice of charity their efforts go to.  As such, each registered runner was given the option to select the charities they wish to support.

Organisations that received the funds were Standard Chartered Foundation which received RM11,200 and represented by Executive Director Encik Adli Yahya; The National Autism Society of Malaysia which received RM9,500 and represented by President, Dato’ Danny Tan; Hospis Malaysia which received RM5,700 and represented by Ms Rinivella, its Public Relations Executive and Malaysian Nature Society which received RM5,200 and represented by President Mr Henry Goh. Also present at the event was Ms Gloria Ng, Director of Dirigo Events, the organiser of the marathon.

“Events such as this promote healthy living and sportsmanship, something MSIG Malaysia champions.  The discipline and tenacity showed by runners easily translate to better lifestyle and better choices.  This year, MSIG rewarded the winners of MSIG 10KM category with a trip for two to Osaka, Japan, as our way to encourage all runners to do better in marathons and encourage participants to experience marathons in other countries and culture,” added Chua.
