MSIG Malaysia introduces professional liability insurance cover for Chinese medicine practitioners
Traditional Chinese medical practitioners in Malaysia have joined a growing number of professional practitioners who can now purchase professional liability insurance.

MSIG Insurance (Malaysia) Bhd, one of Malaysia’s leading general insurers, has collaborated with the Federation of Chinese Physicians and Acupuncturists Association of Malaysia (FCPAAM) to introduce professional liability insurance scheme for the traditional medicine practitioners.

The practitioners can enjoy financial protection against potential negligence claims by patients, error or omission committed by them with MSIG’s Professional Liability Insurance scheme.

The scheme offers indemnity protection of up to RM500,000 with the annual premium starting from RM388. It is exclusively available to all registered FCPAAM members aged between 21 and 70 years, and are registered with the Ministry of Health Malaysia. The policy may be renewed up to 80 years old.
MSIG Malaysia Chief Executive Officer Mr Chua Seck Guan said the professional liability insurance scheme would protect the medical practitioners against financial losses from lawsuits filed against them by their patients.
“The practitioners can now practice traditional Chinese medicine with added peace of mind,” he said, adding the scheme for FCPAAM members provides adequate coverage, including compensation to third party claimant, legal costs of proceedings and lawyer’s fee for as little as RM1.10 per day.

According to Mr Chua, the professional liability insurance scheme was a testimony of MSIG Malaysia’s commitment to introducing a wider range of innovative products in the marketplace.

The professional liability insurance scheme also allows traditional medical practitioners to enjoy cross-border protection with the optional cover which starts from RM58.20 a year. Countries included in the extension cover, allowing TCM practitioners to treat patients outside Malaysia, are China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand.

FCPAAM, registered in 2002, has over 3,000 members throughout Malaysia.
