MSIG x Zero Waste Malaysia

Highlights Page

MSIG is proud to collaborate with Zero Waste Malaysia to broaden our knowledge on sustainable practices and learn how we can collectively reduce our impact on the environment.

As part of this partnership, we recently hosted an internal webinar with staff led by Zero Waste Malaysia where we explored practical, real-world ways to move beyond single-use plastics. From simple daily habit swaps to rethinking long term habits, the session offered clear, actionable guidance we can apply in our everyday lives.

It’s a reminder that sustainability isn’t about perfection. It’s about learning together and taking consistent steps forward for the environment.🌱

Here are some of the key highlights we’ve learned:

  • Embrace the Bring Your Own (BYO) culture: bags, bottles, cups, and cutlery.
  • Avoid using plastic when possible. For example, use kopitiam spoons instead of the plastic containers for sauce and use metal straws if needed or no straws at all.
  • Make sustainability “painless" for others - rather than expecting others to bring their own items, lead by example and gently encourage the behaviour by providing reusable bottles or containers in advance. When it feels effortless and convenient, people are naturally more open to adopting the same habits. It's less about pushing the practice and more about creating an environment where making sustainable choices feels simple and natural.
  • Reduce plastic packaging when grocery shopping - bring your own reusable bags to sort different types of groceries: one for fruits and vegetables, another for meat, and so on. This simple habit helps cut down on unnecessary plastic while keeping your shopping organised and convenient.
