MSIG Malaysia Staff Donation Drive Raises RM70,000 for Nepal Earthquake Survivors

Funds channelled to aid children and families in the aftermath of earthquakes

Kuala Lumpur, 12 June 2015 – MSIG Insurance (Malaysia) Bhd (MSIG Malaysia) succeeded in raising RM70,000 for the survivors of Nepal’s earthquakes, rallying their forces in response to the ongoing recovery and rebuilding efforts in the aftermath.  The funds raised will be channelled through UNICEF’s Nepal Earthquake Children’s Appeal, which was specially set up to provide life-saving aid to children most-affected by the earthquakes.

“The MSIG Nepal Earthquake Donation Drive was initiated at the end of April and despite a short collection period of only two weeks, it was a remarkable success and we are immensely proud of our MSIG employees nationwide who responded with such an outpouring of support. In turn, MSIG Malaysia was pleased to match the generosity of our employees,” said Mr Chua Seck Guan, MSIG Malaysia Chief Executive Officer in reference to the donation drive.

In addition, to allow the Malaysian public to participate in this drive, MSIG Malaysia pledged RM1 for every ‘like’ on the Nepal Earthquake Donation Drive post on MSIG Malaysia Facebook page during the donation period.

“With over 40 years of presence in Nepal, UNICEF is the sound beneficiary for the MSIG Nepal Earthquake Donation Drive,” added Chua.

“It’s encouraging to work with corporations such as MSIG Malaysia that recognize the urgency and need for humanitarian aid, especially in times of disaster. On behalf of UNICEF, we offer our heartfelt gratitude to MSIG Malaysia, their employees and supporters, who made this donation possible for the children and families in Nepal”, said Mr. Richard Beighton, Chief, Private Sector Fundraising and Partnerships at UNICEF.

Through this donation drive, MSIG aims to support UNICEF in helping the survivors of the earthquakes rebuild their lives. The funds will go towards basic necessities such as shelter as well as access to clean water, food, education and health services.

“Rebuilding lives take time, especially with the magnitude of the disasters that they faced.  We hope our modest contribution will be able to help in some meaningful ways.  There are a number of Nepalese working in Malaysia who are unable to connect with families back home.  We want them to know that we care,” added Chua further.

To commemorate the contribution, Ms. Jennifer Hsu, MSIG Malaysia Executive Vice President, Bancassurance, Marketing & Business Excellence presented a mock cheque to Mr. Richard Beighton, Chief, Private Sector Fundraising and Partnerships, who received the funds on behalf of UNICEF.
